It has been two years since the end of World War II. Ludwik and his family leave Lvov and move to Krakow. The boy quickly befriends a group of boys at school and starts a new life in a city he has seen before only on postmarks. He leads a regular life of a fourteen year old boy with first infatuations, practical jokes, and quarrels with teachers. However, that youthful unconcern is constantly confronted with the post-war reality; and when Ludwik is unjustly arrested, a seed of rebellion against the oppression in the name of freedom is born.
