Russian filmmaker Alexey Fedorchenko is probably best known for his melancholic road movie Silent Souls (SFIFF 2011), a Golden Lion nominee at the 67th Venice Film Festival. In 2005, the same festival honored him with the Venice Horizons Documentary Award for First on the Moon, which Fedorchenko called “a documentary fantasy” about a clandestine Russian moon landing in the 1930s.
