A calm and respected resident of a small town charged with a brutal crime – the murder of a woman he fell in love with. To the small town society “accused” means “guilty”. The investigation proceeds in an atmosphere of gossip, denunciation and intrigues. The criminal story is only a pretext for a poetic tale about the need for love and innocent fascination with a young woman. At the same time it is a vivid, but terrifying description of the morality and mentality of the inhabitants in a provincial town.
