Film staff are making a movie in which actors play their own characters. All of a sudden the main hero gets lost, and an investigation soon substitutes the making of the movie. After the arrival of tragic news concerning the death of the actor, the director starts to think about making a film about the actor and without him. He challenges the actors to act the making of their actual story. Everything for Sale was inspired by the life of Zbigniew Cybulski, and with this film Andrzej Wajda pays hommage to this actor.
